We have been working with this neighbourhood on various projects involving local food production, fruit mapping and picking, learning about local food preservation, and building garden boxes.
We co-hosted two canning workshops in Cowichan Green Community's kitchen using the fruit we picked in the neighbourhood, and had a ton of fun!
We'll be distributing the applesauce back to the neighbourhood shortly.
The grade 7 class at Maple Bay Elementary learned about climate change from various experts in our community, and were exposed to different perspectives on what is important when planning a healthy community. They were then challenged to redesign the area around their school, using what they had learned about climate change and how it is projected to impact our community.
They hosted a community event where they invited their families and the surrounding neighbourhood to share what they had learned, and it was a huge success!
With help from many community organizations, we co-hosted a good old fashioned block party in mid-August to bring the neighbourhood together to connect. Warmland House cooked a meal for everyone, there were games, live music, and opportunities to learn about local resources available to the community.
Check out this video for a recap of the celebration!
